Oklahoma’s Republican Senator Dusty Deevers has launched the Bitcoin Freedom Act (SB325), a bill that would allow state employees and residents to use Bitcoin as a payment method for salaries and transactions. The legislation also enables vendors to accept Bitcoin payments.
“In a time when inflation is eroding the purchasing power of hard-working Oklahomans, Bitcoin provides a unique opportunity to protect earnings and investments,” said Deevers, announcing the bill on January 8.
He further emphasized, “As Bitcoin continues to rise and the value of the dollar continues to be printed away in Washington D.C., Oklahoma must act to protect our people.”
The proposed legislation ensures voluntary participation, respecting free-market principles and empowering employees, employers, and businesses to select their preferred payment methods.
Deevers highlighted that the legislation places Oklahoma in a leadership position nationally by embracing innovative financial technology. He added, “This act provides our citizens with more financial options and prepares the state for a rapidly evolving economic future.”
